Gradings: What to expect and why it's your choice

When people hear the word grading, it’s easy to imagine pressure, tests, or being put on the spot.

Grading is not a test you either pass or fail. It’s a structured training session designed to let you demonstrate the skills you’ve been practising in class.

What a Grading Actually Looks Like

A grading session runs very much like a normal class — just a little longer.

There’s no surprises and no “gotcha” moments.

You’ll:

  • Warm up as a group

  • Work through drills you already recognise from class

  • Practice combinations, techniques, and conditioning in a familiar format

There are no surprise techniques. No being called out on your own. No pressure to perform.

The structure is intentional. If you’ve been attending class and putting the work in, you’ll already know what to do.

You’re Still Coached — Not Left to Figure It Out

During grading:

  • Instructors still demonstrate every drill

  • Instructions are clear and repeated

  • You can ask for clarification if you need it

If you feel a bit stuck or forget part of a combination, that's normal and we will help. We’re looking at effort, understanding, and application — not perfection.

The environment stays supportive, even though the focus is higher.

Who Assesses the Grading — and Why

For grading, we bring in an instructor from another one of our location to assess the class.

The reason is simple: we train with you every week, and we want grading to be fair and objective.

Having an external instructor means:

  • Everyone is assessed to the same standard

  • Feedback is unbiased

  • Progress is recognised consistently

They are there to observe and assess, and help see if there are areas to focus on a bit more over the next cycle.

Remember, when those nerves kick in or you doubt yourself, everyone wants to help you progress and see you reach the next milestone.

What If You Don’t Want to Grade?

That’s completely fine.

Grading is always optional.

If you choose not to grade, you can:

  • Continue attending regular classes

  • Learn new skills

  • Improve at your own pace

  • Progress without pressure

Kickboxing isn’t about belts or levels — it’s about growth. And that can look different for everyone.

What Grading Is Really About

Grading isn’t about being perfect.

It’s about:

  • Showing up consistently

  • Applying what you’ve learned

  • Pushing yourself a little outside your comfort zone

For many ladies, grading becomes a powerful moment of realisation:“I can do more than I thought.”

And that confidence doesn’t stay in the gym — it carries into everyday life.

Your Journey, Your Choice

Whether you grade or not, you’re still progressing.

Grading is simply one way to mark your journey — a way to pause, reflect, and acknowledge your effort.

If and when you’re ready, it will be there.

And if you’re not? You’re still exactly where you need to be.
