How to Prepare for Your First Kickboxing Class

Walking into a kickboxing class for the first time can feel exciting — and maybe a little nerve-wracking. Whether it’s your first Elite Ladies Kickboxing session, or your Teen or Junior is stepping onto the mat for the first time, a little preparation can make all the difference.

Here’s your all-round guide to feeling confident, comfortable, and ready to enjoy every minute.

Comfortable Clothing

Kickboxing is a full-body workout, so you want clothing that moves with you:

  • Women: leggings or flexible joggers, breathable T-shirt or tank top.

  • Juniors/Teens: sports shorts or leggings, comfortable T-shirt.

Avoid jeans or anything restrictive — your kicks and punches need freedom.

Tip: Bring a light layer if it's cool — it’s easier to warm up than overheat.

Footwear

  • We recommend training barefoot, it helps with balance and accuracy in kicks.

  • Prefer shoes? Lightweight trainers work well and ladies often prefer shoes.

Gloves and Pads

  • Trial class? Don’t worry — we provide gloves and pads for you to use.

  • Have your own? Bring them along if you prefer.

  • Once you join, you’ll have your own set of pads and gloves to keep practicing confidently.

Water Bottle

Kickboxing is a full-body workout so you’ll want to stay hydrated.

  • Bring a full water bottle and sip between drills.

Pro tip: Electrolytes can help replace what’s lost through sweat, making it easier to stay hydrated during an active class.

Towel (optional)

A small towel is handy for wiping sweat and staying comfortable while training

Positive Mindset

The most important thing to bring is confidence and curiosity:

  • Don’t worry if you’ve never tried kickboxing before.

  • Classes are structured to teach you step by step.

  • Everyone starts somewhere and your instructor will guide you at your pace.

For juniors, this is a great opportunity to practice focus, listening, and respect, while learning new skills and life lessons. For teens and ladies, it’s about building confidence and discovering what your body can do.

Quick Tips for First-Timers

  • Arrive early to meet your instructor and get settled.

  • Ask questions , we love helping beginners feel confident.

  • Focus on learning, not perfection you’ll continue to improve with every class.

  • Listen to your body adaptations are always available.

  • Have fun! Kickboxing is a full-body workout that also boosts focus, coordination, and confidence.
